Street and glamour featured side by side in the Discover Young Hackney closing party fashion show.

Young people got to test their own sense of style through a number of different fashion projects as part
of Discover Young Hackney. This was their chance to show it off.

Lil Simz impressed the crowd at the closing party for Discover Young Hackney on February 25 at the Arcola Theatre. The stage was full of talent, including Pepstar, Kojey Radical and Fiona Bevan among others.

The 18-year-old Lil Simz had the crowd wanting to hear more. She wasn’t afraid to say what she felt and tried to give other young people advice through her lyrics.

The fashion show was also a good turn out, with the girls from London College Of Fashion and Peabody Threads strutting their creative designs on stage. Films showcased many of the organisations involved in the festival and there were performances from poets and spoken word artists.

Kojey Radical, who did spoken word on the night with his swagger on point, had the audience laughing about his poem, The girl with the funny feet. Kojey, who is mainly an artist and dancer, sees society from a very different perspective, which is a good thing to see. One of his poems talks about the need to work, and if it’s enough for him.

Pepstar, an up and coming rapper from Clapton, also performed his song No Flies On.

The Key, an organisation that works with young people who have a disability or special educational needs, showed a film members had made about dance.

This was the first year there was a closing party for Discover Young Hackney. As a young person living in Hackney I think it was a great idea.

Lil Simz performs at the Arcola Tent

Lots of fans showed up to see Lil Simz performing at the Discover Young Hackney closing party at the Arcola Theatre on 25 February 2012.

While her fans were screaming for more, the organisers came out with a birthday cake because it was her birthday two days ago and she is now 18 years old. The crowd loved her songs and kept on shouting for more.

Pitstop closing party

The closing party has arrived for Discover Young Hackney, so come along and see all of the great thing s which will be taking place.

The best part is entry is free. The event will be held at Arcola Theatre on 25 February from 3pm until 9pm.

The evening will consist of various things like a fashion showcase from the London College of Fashion, Art Against Knives and a few more, so if you are interested in fashion this will be your chance to see what other people’s styles are like.

There will also be artists such as Lil Simz who will performing her song Fall To the Floor and Pepstar. If you love spoken word, Kojey Radical, a local artist, and Jack Underwood will also be performing.

You’ll also have the chance to get on stage during an open mic session.
