Youth Take Over

Calling all 13-21 year olds who live in Hackney!

Hackney Empire opens its doors for a whole weekend to encourage and enable the young people of Hackney to get involved in the creative arts industries. hackneyempire.co.uk/youthtakeover

It will be a weekend of great events including Creative Writing workshops with Eastenders’ Tameka Empson, Dance workshops led by Kat B and Comedy workshops with television comedian Hardeep Singh.

Friday 3 February 2012                 Alter Ego     
19:30 -21:30 – £2 IN ADVANCE // £4.00 ON THE DOOR
Kat B (MTV Base) hosts an entertainment spectacular featuring top artists alongside the best that young Hackney has to offer.  Alter Ego will see Hackney’s young singers, dancers, rappers, actors and comedians all competing for the title ‘Alter Ego 2012’

10:00 – 16:00 – FREE ADMISSION
Ever wanted to get involved in performing arts as a hobby or a career? Come and find out how you could get involved in the arts by meeting Hackney arts organisation to find out what activities are happening on your doorstep.

Saturday 4th February 2012      DJ Night @ The Empire Café
19:00 -22:00 – FREE ADMISSION
Chill and listen to some great music played by some of the best DJs Hackney has to offer.

Sunday 5th February 2012        Creative Writing with Tameka Empson and Susie McKenna
11:00 -13:00 – FREE ADMISSION (20 places)
Interested in writing, but never tried it? Come along and meet Eastenders resident funny lady Tameka Empson and Susie Mckenna, writer and director of Hackney Empire’s legendary Pantomimes as they give you the golden rules of creative writing in a workshop that will be full of laughter and creation.

Sunday 5th February 2012        Arts Burst Mini’s and teen mum’s workshop  
13:30 – 15:00 – FREE ADMISSION (30 places)
90-minute interactive workshop for under 5’s and their parents, we encourage young parents aged 13- 21 to come along with their children to have a fun workshop that incorporates their little ones. Come on with your babies and have some fun.

14:30 – 16:30  – FREE ADMISSION (30 places)
Interested in comedy? Think you’re funny? Come and join TV favourite Hardeep Singh in a comedy storytelling workshop where all we need is one mic and your imagination.

16:30 – 18:30 – FREE ADMISSION (20 places)
Interested in street dance? Want to dance with a top industry professional? MTV base’s Kat B leads a energetic street dance workshop, if you ever wondered who taught Boy Blue creator Kenrick H20 Sandy then look no future, we have found him!

Ever wondered how they make food look real on TV and theatre? Theatre prop making workshop with National Youth Theatre prop maker Johnny Blunder, get ready to get your hands dirty!
