Renee wins place in Alter Ego final!

Renee Angelique Dennie will be one of the brilliant acts performing on the Hackney Empire stage for the Alter Ego finals. She won her place by gaining the most online votes after she submitted this amazing audition. We got in touch to see how she was feeling in the run up to the show.

Which School do you attend? I attended Kidbrooke secondary but now go to Westminster Kingsway college.

How did you hear about Discover Young Hackney and the Alter Ego online auditions? I’ve done a performance at Blue Hut youth club in Hackney with Frizz. There I was given a leaflet about the auditions.

Have you always been passionate about singing? I’ve always been so passionate about singing. It’s one of the many things that make me who I am, along side dancing acting and playing the piano. When I sing I feel as though I’m in my own little world, a world where I won’t be judged where I don’t need to hide away and instead be myself.

How did you feel when you heard you were through to the finals? I was shocked as there were so many other talented auditionees and being someone who finds it hard to believe in herself sometimes, I wasn’t expecting such a positive outcome. This has definitly made me believe in myself so much more now.

How are you feeling about performing on the Hackney Empire stage? I’m excited. When I perform I feel on top of the world, superhuman almost. I’m looking forward to the show, watching the 11 other talented contestants, but most of all I’m looking forward to the experience and the chance to showcase what I can do. I just hope people will listen and enjoy listening.
