Hundreds packed the sell-out event marking the start of Hackney Council’s Discover Young Hackney Festival 2015
Sixteen-year-old Kali McLoughlin took the Alter Ego talent contest crown after wowing the crowd with her version of Minnie Riperton’s 1974 hit, ‘Loving You’
Nine acts performed in Hackney’s number one talent contest, on Friday 30 January, which was hosted by Kat B (MTV Base) with performances from Jermain Jackman, Sneakbo, Timbo and Mandem on the Wall.
A new production of a contemporary dance called Young Sherlock. Led by the C-12 Dance Theatre company in collaboration with Shoreditch Town Hall, it will tell the popular story of Sherlock Holmes in dance. Young people will input in to the fuller production which will be touring the UK later in the year.
Immediate Theatre will produce a new youth drama, Hood, whereby young people will give a modern spin on the Robin Hood story with support from professional actors, directors and designers. The new play explores a dysfunctional family whose five children work together to avoid being taken in by social services.
The London College of Fashion will give young people an insight in to the burgeoning fashion industry.
Young people will create visual compositions and stop animation film shorts for their portfolios and a weekend exhibition at the Parasol Unit art gallery.
